This application, named Eliza, is a program designed to simulate interactions typically found in psychotherapy sessions. It is important to note that Eliza is not a licensed psychotherapist, but rather an algorithm that mirrors the conversational style of a Rogerian therapist.

The original version of Eliza was created by Joseph Weizenbaum in the 1960s as part of the MAD-SLIP project at MIT, running on an IBM 7094. For further reading, please refer to Weizenbaum's seminal work "ELIZA - A Computer Program For the Study of Natural Language Communication Between Man and Machine," published in the Communications of the ACM (1966).

Since its inception, Eliza has undergone several iterations. The first BASIC version was developed by Jeff Shrager in 1973 and later adapted into MITS 8k BASIC by Steve North in 1977, appearing in Creative Computing’s July/August issue of that year.

This current application is inspired by the Atari version released in Big Computer Games in 1984, with enhancements based on Norbert Landsteiner's JavaScript implementation from 2005 accessible at http://www.masserk.at. Additionally, various speech output options have been integrated into this iteration to enhance user interaction.
